DOUBLE SHOOTOUT DELIGHT FOR CENTRAL
August 4, 2007
AUCKLAND - Central United’s U-15s finished the Manchester United Premier Cup with dramatic penalty shootout victories over Assumption College Thonburi and East Bengal FC in Manchester overnight.
The spot-kick wins over the Thai and Indian qualifiers – after each game finished goalless at full time – sees Central end the four day tournament in 17
th place.
Head Coach, Hirosi Miyazawa said the trip was tough but would serve the youngsters well.
"The level of performance here is so different to what we're used to. We qualified through our local and national tournaments quite easily and even the Australasia playoffs were quite comfortable, so the level here is way and beyond anything they've ever faced before.
"Even though we didn't get the results we wanted, the football we played was really good. Technically we have the skills but unfortunately the game intelligence isn't there and we'll only ever get that from playing in this competition so for us it's been a fantastic experience”
Sao Paulo, who topped Central’s group after the first two days, meet Barcelona tonight in what is shaping up as an epic final between two past winners.

KOREAN DRAGONS SLAY CENTRAL
August 2, 2007
AUCKLAND - Central United’s U-15 side have lost their first two matches in the Manchester United Premier Cup, in Manchester overnight.
Day One of the four day tournament proved a tough one for the Kiwitea Street boys, losing 4-2 to Chunnam Dragons from South Korea and 1-0 to FC Basel of Switzerland.

Camp in London 23rd - 28th July
Game 3 - 27/7/07 - Central United vs Charlton AFC

Today was the final warm up match before we hit the tournament next week and the team travelled out to Charltons Sparrows Lane training ground. What should have been a 2 hour trip turned into a 3 and a half hour slog through traffic as our trusty satellite navigation proved to be not too helpful!!! Kick off had to be put back half an hour and on a reasonably warm day we were concerned at how the boys might go after the obvious disruption to our preparations.
The boys responded emphatically and took control of the match from the start. A fantastic attitude and spirit provided the benchmark for another excellent showing. The match was played in 25 minute thirds and although we dominated the first one we could not turn this into goals and the first period ended 0-0. A 6 minute 3 goal blitz set us on our way for our second win of the tour. Tom Doyles first touch of the match resulted in him swinging over an inviting cross which Andrew Mobberley met at the far post, squaring the ball for Andrew Milne to blast home. The second arrived 2 minutes later, Mohamed Salad was too strong and quick for the Charltom Centre back, latching onto a ball from Adam Thomas he shrugged off the challenge and fired past the advancing keeper. Just as we were still celebrating Mohameds great individual effort we were treated to a goal of the highest quality. Salad held the ball up before measuring a perfect back heel into the path of the supporting Zane Sole, carrying the ball forward at pace Sole drew 2 defenders before slipping the ball into Milnes path. On an angle and with just the keeper to beat, Milne skilfully curled the ball first time around the out stretched arms of the keeper. This was the best goal of the tour to date. Charlton pulled a goal back in stoppage time.
The final third remained scoreless but we kept a very high level of performance and continue to play some fantastic football. A strong 3 -1 victory to send us into next week on a high.
Game 2 - 26/7/07 - Central United 1 vs Reading FC 1
The team has passed their biggest test so far with flying colours. The side travelled to the Reading FC training facility today to take on the English Nike Cup semi finalist Reading FC. It turned out to be an experience not to forget!!! Within 8 minutes of the start each side was awarded a penalty each that were both converted. Reading struck on 5 minutes, goalkeeper Patrick George saving the first attempt only to be denied by the referee ordering a retake for moving forward, the second attemp was scored making it 1 nil Reading. Within 3 minutes we were level with the Reading keeper bringing down Mohamed Salad for the second spot kick in 8 minutes. Zane Sole sent the keeper the wrong way and made the score 1 all. The weather was terrible and the rain got harder and harder.
After the equaliser the Central side took control of the game pegging the Reading side back in their own territory, looking technically sharper and playing some attractive football. Chances came thick and fast on the Reading goal but we were unable to capitalise on various opportunities to take the lead. Zane Sole hit the cross bar with a free kick and Mohamed Salad was denied twice, first of all by the keepers finger tips and secondly by the referee who ruled out a goal for a foul on the keeper.
The rain was driving down by the time half time came around and it was decided by the referee and the Reading officials that the game would be cancelled as the players safety could not be guaranteed due to deteriorating conditions. We reluctantly agreed with the decision but it was a massive shame as afterwards we all saw it as huge chance missed to take a big scalp - that is how confident we were of going on and winning the game had it been alowed to continue.
We move onto tomorrow with a real hunger as we travel to Charlton to take them on at their first teams training ground.

Fulham FC travelled to our training base at Bradfield College for our first game of the tour. First half goals from Keith Henry, Mohamed Salad and Thomas Spragg gave us a commanding lead at the break. Second half goals from Andrew Milne and Thomas Spraggs second goal of the match rounded off a comfortable 5 - 0 victory and has given the side a confidence boosting start to an exciting 2 week schedule. After the game the Fulham scout identified 4 of our players that impressed them and would consider offering a trial to - great news for everyone involved!!!
