WYNRS NZCT NATIONAL TOURNAMENT 2009
Over
the weekend of Saturday 13th
and
Sunday 14th
September
the WYNRS Academy held its 7th
annual
National Tournament. This year’s event was
played over 2 divisions, both Junior and Intermediate,
and hosted teams from Napier, Marlborough, Wellington
as well as our own teams from the Auckland WYNRS
Academy.
Waikaraka
Park was the venue for the second year running as over 100
youth players competed in the Kiwi Kick (WYNRS 5 a side
soccer) team event as well as the individual events,
Wynton’s Way (juggling), 1 v 1 and Sharpshooter. The
weather was kind to us this year and the first day’s
competition as the player’s competed in the
qualifying round’s of all the events was very tight
and skillful.
Sunday
morning saw the teams arrive to finish their qualifying for
Wynton’s Way and Sharpshooter and the quarter finals
for the Kiwi Kick decided who the semi finalists in both
grades would be. As the morning progressed the competitions
reached the finals stages with the top scoring individuals
competing against each other for the prizes in
Wynton’s Way, Sharpshooter and 1 v 1. All the finals
showcased the top individuals at the tournament and there
was a real buzz as the players performed to very high
standards dazzling the crowd with their skills.
The
final events of the tournament were the finals of the Kiwi
Kick in both grades with two of the WYNRS Auckland Academy
sides coming out on top after two close and exciting games.
Our prize giving rounded off another memorable weekend with
the winners receiving trophies and also some great prizes
from Lotto sports.

Even
more important than the winning of the prizes was the
fantastic spirit that the National Tournament 2008 was
played in. All the player’s gave an amazing effort
over the weekend with high levels of sportsmanship
throughout. A really successful and enjoyable weekend was
had by all, as the WYNRS academy players once again
demonstrated a very high level of footballing ability and
excellence.

At this
year’s tournament, the Auckland based teams were
joined by kids from Wellington, Hawke’s Bay and
Marlborough to determine the best of the best in four
different categories: Kiwi-Kick, 1v1, Sharpshooter and
Juggling.
All
events were hard-fought and it took the best performances
by every contestant to decide the winners.
The
