CHRIS WOOD LIVING THE DREAM
01/09/2008
Chris
Wood from Hamilton is living in England and living
the football dream. The 16 year old has a 2 year
contract with Premier League side West Bromwich
Albion. Chris was one of the tour members that
travelled to Europe back in 2000 on the very first
Wynrs overseas trip. Michael Fitzgerald was captain
of that team that also included NZ Olympic star Cole
Peverley. Chris also toured with Wynrs to Japan and
one time Wynton tried to convert him to goalkeeper
during one of the tournaments in
Hiroshima!
Over the years in NZ under the tutelage of Peter Moxham of Hamilton fierce competition took place between the Auckland and Waitkato players. What a joy now to see all this hard work slowly coming to fruition.
An accomplished goal scorer today, we remember only too clearly how Chris would hang around the half way line in “Kiwi Kick” taking full advantage of the “no offside “ rule, continuously wreaking havoc on the Wynrs Auckland teams. Chris was a star member of last years New Zealand U-17 squad that played in the Fifa World Cup in South Korea. Read more about his time at West Brom on the Wynrs diary.
