10th GRADE TEAM TRIUMPH
25/06/2009
The
10th
grade
WYNRS boys are celebrating their success at the
annual Clendon 7-aside tournament held on June
21st
2009.
Going into the tournament without regulars Robert Tipelu and Paolo Korkman, meant having to make do without any subs, however 8th grader Alex Stewart came along to be on stand-by in case of injury.

Exhausted, but jubilant……Back: Jimmy, Liam, Alex, David. Front: Justin, Jack, Anthony, Luke.
The trimmed down team of seven successfully came through the pool play in top spot, but having to advance through the knockout phase of the tournament was quite
another matter when faced with quality established sides like Papakura Phoenix and Albany United. However the boys were able to put in some spirited displays of skill and determination to set up a final with another side of real quality, Birkenhead United, the 2008 National 9th grade tournament finalists. As expected, the final was an evenly matched affair with both sides showcasing an attractive display of skilled, clean and positive football.
In the end the tiring WYNRS boys were able to hold their first half lead of 1-0 until the final hooter sounded, much to their great relief and delight!
