ROCKING AT RANGERS
07/08/2008
I’m
loving it in Scotland. Training at my favourite
club Glasgow Rangers is just brilliant. Last
year I came here with Cameron Lindsay and now
I’m back hoping to secure a contract.
I’m living with my dad (I was born in
Glasgow) who lives in the same street as
Parkhead (home ground of Celtic.) Every morning
I have to get up at 6:30am to travel to the
awesome training facility of Rangers. I catch a
train into the city, then from there a train
into Milgavie, where Murray Park is located.
First thing when I arrive is to get my training
kit and then go have breakfast. Training starts
about 9.30am. Training is a lot like at Wynrs,
heaps of ball work, passing drills, possession
and small sided games. Lunch follows and then we
head out for the second training session which
also lasts around two hours. Its like a full
time job from 8 in the morning till 4 in the
afternoon. Its a very busy schedule and you
don’t have much time for yourself.
Wednesdays’ and Saturdays’ are
normally free days. I’ve played three
games so far for Rangers. The first was with the
under 17's against Queens Park under 19's. Then
I played for the under 19's against Dumbarton
Reserves. Last weekend I played for the under
18's against Stirling Albion under 19's. In all
of the games I have been playing more of a
defensive role than what I would play in NZ but
of course I would even play keeper if it meant
getting a contract. Another highlight was
watching Rangers 1st
team live in a pre season game against Liverpool.
Ibrox was sold out so you can imagine the atmosphere
even though Liverpool won 4-0. Fernando Torres and
Steven Gerrard were amazing. Still it was something
that I’ll never forget.
