Daryl Halligan (NZ rugby league legend) and Wynton Rufer (Oceania Player of the Century) featured in a Sky TV “Kicking Kings” competition. Played out on the Warriors home ground at Mt Smart Stadium both players had to kick rugby and soccer balls between the posts. For each successful goal, one point was awarded. The 2nd stage of kicking had the ex- football heroes “drop kicking” both balls between the posts. At this stage Wynton held a slight lead going into the final stage of penalty shoot outs with both codes’ balls. Unbelieveably Rufer missed both his penalties with the soccer ball in front of the full Warriors squad on the main field shortly before kickoff against the Broncos.
Daryl took home the gold medal by one goal.
