Daniel Ball is our new academy coach. He joined the
Wynrs team during the recent July tour to Thailand.
An English FA level 2 badge holder , Daniel
spent the last 2 years in the USA at MLS team New
York Red Bulls Youth Academy. Daniel started playing
at the Everton football academy when he was 8 and
signed as a pro at the age of 16. He later moved on
to Tranmere Rovers, Manchester City and Crewe
Alexandra in 2000. At this stage he started to get
serious about coaching with experienced gained at
local sides such as Formby FC, Redgate Rovers FC and
Woodwards FC, where he managed and coached different
age levels while also playing for the clubs first
teams.
A 6 month stint in Holland followed by the 2 years in New York has now brought this coaching globetrotter to NZ . The 24 yr old Everton fan also gained his NSCAA Goalkeeping Diploma while in the US.
Michael Ball:
Daniel’s older brother has been a regular for Premier League giants Manchester City in the last couple of years. Michael hit the big time after successful trials as a 14 yr old for the English Football Association’s School of Excellence, Lilleshall. His room mate was none other than Man Utd star defender Wes Brown. Included in the same year was Michael Owen. Famous players to miss the cut included Steven Gerrard and Alan Smith!

After a number of successful seasons at Everton and also representing England at under 18, 19 & 21 level, Sven Goran Erikson’s appointment to the full England squad, presented Michael with his first international cap. He played left back against Spain for Erikson’s first game in charge, a thrilling 3-0 win for England at Villa Park. Over the next few seasons however, a change of manager and a serious knee injury saw Michael move to Glasgow Rangers for a Scottish record fee of £8.5m (26 million NZ $.)
Michael is married to Amanda. The couple have a son Michael Stephen and Scottish born daughter Aleisha. Another move followed and Michael played a couple of successful seasons under Guus Hiddink at PSV Eindhoven, Holland - winning titles and playing Champions League semi- finals against AC Milan. Michael is now with Man City.
