ONEHUNGA SPORTS WYNRS TEAM WIN THE VINCENT GREEN MEMORIAL 11th GRADE TOURNAMENT IN TAURANGA
17/08/2009
Sunday
the 9th
August
saw the Onehunga Sports WYNRS 11th
grade
team claim their 3rd
tournament
title from 3 starts this year. The Vincent Green
Memorial saw 20 teams enter representing clubs
covering Tauranga, Rotorua, Hamilton and Auckland.
This
tournament was a 9 a-side tournament played on
pitches approx 75 to 85 metres length and 50
metres width with full size goals. A first for
most of the boys in 11th
grade
to be playing full size goals. The team went
through pool play unbeaten and qualified for the
championship round along with Papakura –
who also field many WYNRS players. A quarter
final win was followed by a tense semi final
shoot out win that took the team into the final
to once again meet Papakura and take out the
championship. Great to see both sides doing so
well and reaching the final together, showcasing
so many of WYNRS finest young talents.
The team would like to thank Liam Jordan for his efforts in playing on Sunday as well as David Stewart for stepping up from the 10th grade to play in goal so well for the day. Special thanks also go to the Blue Rovers Club for running a great tournament on well conditioned grounds at Pemberton Park in Greerton.
