EAST COAST BAYS INTO CHATHAM CUP SEMI FINALS
27/07/2010
Head
of the WYNRS Academy Leigh Kenyon is once again
dreaming of another Chatham Cup final appearance
after his East Coast Bays side edged local rivals
Glenfield Rovers in the Competitions quarter final
over the weekend.

Jack Beguely scored with the last kick of match to give 2008 winners East Coast Bays a dramatic and controversial 2-1 win in the quarterfinals of the 83rd Chatham Cup on Saturday.
With time ticking away in the third minute of time added on and running out of angle to work with, Beguely curled a shot over and around Glenfield goalkeeper Jacob Spoonley, who managed to collect the ball but not before an assistant referee awarded the goal.
There was no time to restart the game, but there was enough for Spoonley to be cautioned by referee Nick Waldron, who sent James Pritchett from the field as Glenfield players vigorously protested the goal.
Paul Seaman’s 21st minute volley from the edge of the penalty area cancelled out Dan Morgan Howell’s sixth minute opener for Bays in a tense and spirited encounter, which boiled over in the 75th minute with another goal-line controversy.
East Coast Bays playmaker Leigh Kenyon thought his shot had squeezed under Spoonley and over the line but this time play was waived on.
Glenfield defender Nadir Harrat went spectacularly close to scoring an unlikely winner for East Coast Bay when his 80th minute diving headed clearance rocketed of his own post.
Leigh is now looking forward to tomorrows semi final draw which will see his East Coast Bays side paired with Miramar (Wellington), Bay Olympic (Auckland) or Caversham (Dunedin) to contest a spot in the September 4th final.
