06/08/2009
Former
WYNRS academy player Joseph Dawkins will shortly
embark on an amazing opportunity. Joseph was the
captain of the New Zealand Secondary Schools
side that toured the United Kingdom in 2008 and
it was during the International against Northern
Ireland that he impressed a scout from the
Florida International University which is in the
U.S.A.Joseph was subsequently
offered a full four year Athletic scholarship to
FIU to play in the 1st
Division
Conference USA League, and leaves for Miami on
the 12th August.
Looking forward to the challenge ahead Joseph commented, ‘It’s always been one of my goals to play soccer at an international level and this scholarship from FIU is an amazing opportunity for me to develop my game to another level’.

Joseph spent four years in the WYNRS academy programme between 2001 – 2005 and toured Japan with WYNRS in 2003.
Joseph acknowledges the football and skill foundations laid during this time as well as learning about and experiencing professional environments as being key attributes acquired from WYNRS.
Attributes that have contributed to Joseph securing this chance.
Good luck Joseph.
We hope you take the opportunity with both hands (and feet!!).
